Be a U.S. citizen
Be a registered voter in Illinois
Have lived within the school district for at least 1 year before the election
Not be a school trustee or school treasurer
Not be a registered child sex offender
What You Need to File
Download or pick up the candidate petition packet from the DuPage County Election Division at 421 N. County Farm Rd., Wheaton (available ~September 15, 2026)
Collect voter signatures on petition sheets — you may start collecting signatures on September 22, 2026, not before. Call the DuPage County Election Division at 630-407-5500 to confirm the exact number of signatures required for your district.
File a Statement of Economic Interests with the DuPage County Clerk before submitting your nomination papers — bring the receipt with you when you file
Submit your completed nomination papers, petition sheets, Statement of Candidacy, and SEI receipt to the DuPage County Election Division by December 21, 2026
Register a political committee with the Illinois State Board of Elections if you raise or spend more than $5,000
