Park District Board Commissioner — Your local park district within DuPage County

Filing Fee: No filing fee Term: 6-year terms — no term limits Seats: 5-member board, typically 1–2 seats up per election cycle (varies by district) Election: April 6, 2027

DuPage County has more than 20 independent park districts. Each is governed by an elected board of 5 commissioners who decide how parks and recreational facilities are built, maintained, and funded. Park boards set the annual budget, approve programming, and hire the executive director. These are real governing decisions — not advisory.

Who Can Run

Be at least 18 years old
Be a U.S. citizen and a registered voter in your park district
Reside within the park district you want to represent

📋 What You Need to File

Find your park district — call the DuPage County Clerk at (630) 407-5600 or check dupagecounty.gov to confirm which park district covers your address.
Contact your park district office to find out exactly how many petition signatures you need (based on 5% of votes cast at the last park board election, minimum 25) and where to file your papers.
Starting around August 24, 2026, collect signatures from registered voters in your park district. Aim for twice the minimum.
File your notarized Statement of Candidacy and petition papers at your park district office during the filing window (estimated November 16–23, 2026).
File a Statement of Economic Interests.
Register a political committee with the Illinois State Board of Elections if you raise or spend more than $5,000 (most park board candidates spend far less).
