City Council Member or Mayor — City of Wheaton — City of Wheaton, Illinois (DuPage County)
Who Can Run
Be at least 18 years old
Be a U.S. citizen and a registered voter in Wheaton
Have lived within Wheaton's city limits for at least 1 year before the election
For a district seat (North, East, South, or West): also live within that specific district
What You Need to File
Pick up a petition packet from Wheaton City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St. Packets are typically available from City Hall starting late July 2026.
Collect voter signatures on petition sheets starting approximately late July 2026 — not before. The exact number of signatures required depends on which seat you're running for (district vs. at-large) and will be listed in your packet. Call (630) 260-2000 to confirm.
File a Statement of Economic Interests with the DuPage County Clerk (421 N. County Farm Rd., Wheaton | 630-407-5500) before or by the filing deadline. Bring the receipt to City Hall when you submit your papers — a missing receipt is a disqualifying defect.
Submit your completed nomination papers — petition sheets, Statement of Candidacy (sworn and notarized), and SEI receipt — to Wheaton City Hall by approximately October 26, 2026 (exact date TBD).
Register a political committee with the Illinois State Board of Elections if you raise or spend more than $5,000.
