City Council Member or Mayor — City of Naperville — City of Naperville, Illinois (DuPage/Will County)

Filing Fee: No filing fee Term: 4-year term — maximum 3 consecutive terms (12 years) per office Seats: 5 seats on the 2027 ballot: Mayor + 4 Council members (Wehrli, Kelly, Longenbaugh, McBroom, Wilson — all elected in 2023). All seats are at-large (no ward requirement). Election: April 6, 2027

Who Can Run

Be at least 18 years old
Be a U.S. citizen and a registered voter in Naperville
Have lived within Naperville's city limits for at least 1 year before the election
Not have already served 3 consecutive four-year terms in the same office (Naperville's term limit — 12 years maximum per office)

📋 What You Need to File

Pick up a petition packet from Naperville's Community Services Department (City Clerk) at 400 S. Eagle St., Naperville — packets typically become available in late July 2026.
Collect voter signatures on petition sheets — you may start approximately late July 2026. The exact number required for 2027 will be published with the packet (317 were required in 2025). All signers must be registered Naperville voters.
File a Statement of Economic Interests with the DuPage County Clerk (421 N. County Farm Rd., Wheaton | 630-407-5500) before or by the filing deadline. Bring the receipt when you submit your nomination papers — a missing receipt will disqualify you.
If your name has legally changed within 3 years of the filing deadline, you must disclose that on your petition sheets.
Submit your completed nomination papers — petition sheets, Statement of Candidacy (sworn and notarized), and SEI receipt — to Naperville's Community Services Department by approximately October 26, 2026 (exact date TBD).
Register a political committee with the Illinois State Board of Elections if you raise or spend more than $5,000.
